How to Use My Spidey Powers for Good

Good morning, VCP fans!

I am still very new at blogging, and I am seeking advice on how to use this tool properly.  My friend, Mrs. Jessica Enlow, explained it to me as an online newsletter.  So, I will try and make it a priority to give a devotion, or a least a Biblical thought, at least once a week to use this tool for the Lord.

I was reading an article by another Christian Author, and we was giving an account of events at a convention that she was attending.  She described how one of her spiritual gifts was that of affirmation, or as some may call it edification.  I thought about this, and it really hit me hard again about the power of words. So, as I often do, I hit the eSword and did a search on "words".

P.S., if you don't have the eSword on your computer, I would strongly recommend that you download it.  It is free, put out there by Rick Meyers, and it is a wonderful tool to help you search the Bible.  It comes along with Commentaries and tools for taking notes, etc.  Even if you don't write devotions, or preach, it is an awesome tool just have to help you with your devotions!

Anyways, three verses out of the 548 that popped up really jumped out at me.

Ecclesiastes 5:2a, "Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter
any thing before God:"

I realize that Solomon is talking in the passage about making vows to God that we can't keep, but think about it.  How many times have we made rash decisions that have gotten us in trouble?  Been there, done that, bought the T-Shirt and Souvenir Mug!  This is one thing that I definitely have to work on!

Proverbs 15:1, "A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger."

One thing that I have learned the hard way is to stop before I speak.  Soooooo many times I have spoken in anger and hurt so many people, including myself.  If I can remember to stop, drop, and listen really close, the Holy Spirit will give me the right words to say in a bead situation.  Sometimes, He may tell you just to walk away! Remember, " obey is better than sacrifice..." (I Samuel 15:22b.)

And the last verse:

Proverbs 16:24, "Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones."

Who can forget the famous words of Thumper in Bambi, "If you can't say somethin' nice, don't say nothin' at all!"   If we can find something good to say to someone, SAY IT!  Use your words for good!  The Bible tells us here that pleasant words are sweet to the soul, and HEALTH TO THE BONES!!!  We never know when someone else is hurting.  God may have put us in their path to give them the right words to heal their heart, and give them the kick-start that they need to get going.

Believe it or not, a teenage friend of my son, posted on Facebook the other day, and let me quote this:

"Where God guides he WILL provide!" - Holly Carlisle

I was really having a bad day that day, looking "over the sides of the Ark, at the carnage floating around" instead of looking up out of the God-designated window at the top that I was supposed to be using!  I do have a tough road in front of me this school year, but where the Lord leads, He will intercede!

Holly used words to encourage me.  I hope that I am using words to encourage you!  Share some pleasant words with someone today, and be a part of God's team!

  1. That's what I'm talking about! Great post! Love ya!

  2. I'm not sure where you're looking to not see anything for your last 37 years! :) You have a degree, teach children which will impact the rest of their lives, written books, and the list goes on! You make the rest of us wonder what we have to show for our years.Remember though what you do have to show the most IS WHAT YOU CAN'T SEE! "Only one life twill soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last!"
